Few people would argue with the central importance given to agriculture in Brazil. However, it’s also vital that growing crops and raising livestock must be undertaken in a sustainable and environmentally-balanced way. Harmful pollution must of course be kept to an absolute minimum.

In this light it’s encouraging to note the increase in the return of empty pesticide containers by the country’s farmers. After all, if these are not returned and handled carefully for safe disposal, the contaminated packaging can cause havoc in the natural environment.
Needless to say this will then adversely and severely affect the lives of millions of people, not to mention their livelihoods and homes.

Last year, farmers obeyed the disposal laws and safely returned about 34,000 Tonnes of empty containers, an increase of nearly ten per cent on the previous year. Some might say this is not a very exciting piece of national statistics but it’s certainly an important one.
