The world is full of inspiring examples of women who combine raising a family with effectively running large beneficial organisations or influencing progress in many different ways.

One example is Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff (mother of Paula) who has featured in second place on the recent list of twenty most powerful mothers in the world, compiled by Forbes Magazine. The prestigious publication put together the ranking of female politicians, business leaders and public personalities based on the women’s decision-making power or influence on world affairs. Of course, economics came into it, including each person’s effect on issues like social progress and/or encouraging ethical investment or business.

Dilma was only surpassed on the mothers’ list by Hilary Clinton, US Secretary of State and former ‘first lady’. In third place was Ms. Indra Nooyi, Chief Executive of Pepsi Cola. Other notable women on the listing include Mrs. Michelle Obama, Melinda Gates (wife of Bill). Cristina Kirchner (President of Argentina), singer Beyonce Knowles and of course Burmese reformer Aung Sang Suu Kyi.
