Brazil to Speed up Minha Casa Minha Vida

Yesterday (30th January), the Brazilian government announced that it wanted to speed-up the implementation of its flagship affordable homes scheme 'Minha Casa, Minha Vida'.
This happened following a high-level meeting with twenty leaders of the country’s construction industry. The purpose of the gathering was to exchange views and air problems about how the MCMV housing scheme could be expedited.

Brazilian Interest Rate Down Again

The Brazilian 'Selic' rate has been reduced again. This is the basic interest rate set by the country’s Central Bank from time to time, which provides an important foundation for the whole economy. This latest cut (of an extra half a percent) is the fourth one in a row and it brings the new national level down to ten point five percentage points. The implications for both domestic and international investment are important as. among other things, borrowing will of course be cheaper.

The Brazilian federal government is working together with various State administrations to implement the ‘Minha Casa, Minha Vida’ scheme for decent affordable housing. The programme is aimed to make it possible, for the very first time, for millions of people on modest incomes to own their own homes via manageable mortgages.

New York wants increased Brazilian tourism

In a move warmly welcomed by many, the administration of New York City announced this week it will be lobbying the US Government to ease entry requirements for tourists from Brazil. The city’s Mayor, Michael Bloomberg and his staff feel that the current restrictions on visitors from Brazil are seriously restricting the economy of the USA’s largest city.

New Survey Optimism in Brazil

According to a recent survey by IPEA ( the Institute of Applied Economic Research) it seems that Brazilians nowadays are more upbeat and confident about their country’s economy. The figures showed that a record 67.2 points on the scale was the score at the end of last year, an increase of nearly three points when compared to the same point in the previous year.

Next Stage of Minha Casa Minha Vida Officially Launches

The next exciting stage of Brazil's famous affordable homes programme, Minha Casa Minha Vida has now been officially launched. Although initially approved last June, various necessary processes have now been negotiated which led to the announcement a few days ago, under Rule 610, from the official gazette of the Ministry of Cities.
The programme not only helps with Brazil's hugh housing deficit but allows international property investment to boom in the country by allowing ethical, short term investments into the scheme
